The most difficult closet to organize is definitely the kids. Majority of the kids do not have the same sense of responsibility that adults have. They cannot take the time to bother about maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of their closet. Plus they are just too impatient to get their favorite shirt or outfit and would not think twice about the mess that they have created.
One way of teaching your kids responsibility and at the same time lessen your work load at home is to let them clean their own rooms and organize their own closets. You are not a super mom and it is beyond your call of duty to do everything by yourself. Kids also need their own privacy no matter how young they are and letting them have their own room and be responsible for everything inside it is just one way of ensuring that they will be getting it.
So on one weekend, have a discussion with your kids about their responsibilities. Be clear in what they need to do. You cannot expect them to make their rooms, especially their closet, as clean as when you are the one doing it so teach them to clean and organize their closet.
Lead by example is the best instruction for kids. Teach them to start cleaning from the inside. Ask them to set aside the things or clothes that they want to discard. Once that is done, teach them to segregate their clothes by category. Instructing and showing the kids on how to properly fold clothes and put them on clothes hangers is also very important. Instill in them that there is no other way to organize closet essentials but the proper way.
Investing in several clothes hangers is important. For kids, it would be much easier to choose clothes if they are in separate hangers. This would also ensure that only minimal mess will be done because there is ease and convenience in looking for his clothes. In sorting out socks, teach them to match the socks, roll the pair together and put them in one cabinet drawer. Underwear and handkerchiefs should also be placed together.
Another important reminder is to tell your kids that only clean clothes should be put inside the drawer and food like candies and chocolates should never be hidden inside the closet. Keep the closet doors closed all the time.
These may just be simple steps but if your kids take this to heart, closet organization would just be a breeze for them.
