Perfume Review: Happy For Women by Clinique

Happy is probably the most popular perfume by Clinique. It was launched in 1997 with the purpose of creating an uplifting fragrance, without being too dense or formal. The official notes are: red grapefruit, boysenberry flower, and jasmine.

The opening is with a mix of concentrated orange and other citrus notes, diluted on a base of aromatic water. There is also a floral note of jasmine, which is slightly bitter and straight from the garden. It will become more intense as time passes, and will last until the end, becoming the signature of the fragrance. In the middle phase, there are other extra woody notes along with small traces of aromatic green notes, and even of seeds and honey. With time, the floral note seems to separate, giving the idea of a mix of florals which create an aromatic cloud, impossible to separate in single lines. The final base notes keep the same structure of the beginning, with only little differences, with some florals lowering or increasing their intensity. The floral is now a little sweeter, with tones of orange mixed with a creamy and warm layer, possibly for the effect of musk.

Happy perfume keeps the promise of its name, delivering an upbeat and cheerful fragrance, very pleasant to the nose. Although it is mainly based on fresh orange notes, the overall style is far from being traditional. In spite of the occasional bitter notes, it is suitable for any time of the year, although it is of course more oriented towards summer. This fragrance has the great quality of being suitable both for a personal and social use (there are not many perfumes for women like that, the only one I know is Ralph Lauren perfume Romance). For a night use, it keeps a good trail, thanks to its base of bitter orange notes of the middle phase. On the romantic side, it will also serve you well, as the florals can be sensual and addictive. The ideal age range goes from 20 to 60.
